You’re a Wizard Harry!

Were you in line this weekend for the release of Harry Potter and the Cursehp cursedd Child?  Did you pre-order it?  If so, you are not alone, so did 100 000 other people!

Just when you thought J.K. Rowling was done, nearly 10 years after the final book she released a sequel, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.  The new book acts as a screen play for the current play by the same name.  The sales and line ups for the book release were crazy, just like how it should be.  Harry Potter fans are loyal!  With the insane number of pre-orders, the title is set to be the biggest for sales since the last novel, Deathly Hallows in 2007.  Will a movie also follow this book? We will just have to wait and see!

Harry Potter is one of the biggest literature and movie franchises in the world.  It is the second highest grossing film franchise with a value of over $7.7 billion and the top selling book series with over 450 million copies sold worldwide.  The 7 books were turned into 8 movies and quickly became a phenomenon everywhere.  People grew up reading the books and watching the movies and the popularity of the franchise grew with every release creating sold out box offices and long line ups for the book launches.

A huge part of the movie successes is how well they did internationally.  According to Box Office Mojo, each movie grossed more than double internationally compared to North American returns.  The final movie did so well internationally that over 70% of its sales were achieved through foreign box offices, helping to make it the highest grossing Harry Potter film with total sales of over $1 billion.

With the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1997 to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2007 and the 5 books in-between, J.K. Rowling continued to receive international praise for her amazing series.  According to Forbes Magazine, in 2004 she became the first author to become a U.S dollar billionaire.  Now, her books are translated into over 70 distinct language versions.  They are just as popular internationally as they are in North America (or at home for her in the United Kingdom), which is how it became the number 1 selling book series in history.

From old fans to new fans, Harry Potter will always be a worldwide phenomenon!!  Whatever your language, you can enjoy both the books and movies!
